If you NEED equipment or supplies buy them before the end of the year and you may be able to deduct the full amount in 2018! Notice that I said need, because it does not make sense to buy equipment that you do not need just to save money on taxes. 

You also can PREPAY expenses to help increase your tax write offs. The rule on this deduction is that it cannot be a benefit that will last longer than the next 12 months.  If you pay 12 months of rent you can deduct that expense in 2018 however if you pay 24 months that rule does not apply and it has to be allocated over the correct periods.  Also, remember this deduction only works once as you are accelerating a tax deduction and it will catch up to eventually!
